DLP Transfer rules allow you to protect the files that are most important to you and your business. By creating DLP Transfer rules, you let KnowIT know how you would like to handle policy violations if they occur on your computers.
How do the rules work?
KnowIT watches out for specific activity happening on your computers, based on the rules you define in your account. The rule will also define which action you would like to take in the event that a rule's criteria are matched to an activity.
A Transfer Rule is made up of 3 key parts:
- Content: Choose which files you want to keep a close eye on (eg. your source code, back office documents)
- Destination: Select the type of transfers to keep a lookout for (eg. network copy, web upload, print jobs)
Action: Decide what you want to happen if an attempt is detected (eg. block, alert, warn)
Content Collections
|
|
| The content part of a rule requires that you have already defined the types of files that you are interested in. KnowIT refers to these definitions as Content Collections.

Transfer Destinations
|
|
| A destination for a rule is where KnowIT watches for the activity to happen. KnowIT lets you select from a list of destination types:
- USB Drive
- Web upload
- Network Share
- Printer

Actions
|
|
| KnowIT has just detected that an employee is attempting to transfer your source code to a USB drive.
What would you like to happen now?
You can choose to warn your employee, block the transfer, or even force the computer to be shut down as a response. Whatever your decide, you will also be able to receive an immediate alert notifications of the event.
