Important note for MacOS El Capitan, Sierra, and High Sierra users

Due to changes in the latest MacOS operating systems from Apple, Mac users whose Macs are running MacOS El Capitan, MacOS Sierra or MacOS High Sierra must follow the steps below before installing KnowIT otherwise the KnowIT installer will fail and KnowIT cannot be installed.

If the Mac is running MacOS Yosemite or earlier then these steps are not needed.  

This is split into two parts, for Macs running with one hard drive partition and for Macs with more than one hard drive partition.

FOR MACS WITH ONE PARTITION

• Boot your Mac into recovery mode

To do this, turn off your Mac completely and then hold down Command & R while the Mac boots up.  

Instead of booting into MacOS it will boot into the recovery environment which looks like this:

From the Utilities menu, click Terminal. 

When the Terminal window appears type in the following:

csrutil disable

Press Enter.

A message will appear to confirm the command was processed successfully.

Click the Apple icon in the top left-hand corner and then click Restart.

Once the Mac restarts log back in to your KnowIT online portal and follow the steps to install KnowIT on to the Mac again and the installation should now complete successfully.

FOR MACS WITH MORE THAN ONE OPERATING SYSTEM

• Boot your Mac into recovery mode

Make sure the Mac is turned off completely.

Turn it back on and hold down Alt whilst the system boots up. Select the OS X 10.11 recovery partition from the list.

This will boot the Mac in to the recovery environment.

From the Utilities menu, click Terminal.

When the Terminal window appears type in the following:

csrutil disable

Press Enter.

A message will appear to confirm the command was processed successfully.

Click the Apple icon in the top left-hand corner and then click Restart.

Once the Mac restarts log back in to your KnowIT online portal and follow the steps to install KnowIT on to the Mac and the installation should now complete successfully.

Now that you have done all that it is time to install KnowIT on to your employees Mac.

Step 1 - Log into your KnowIT portal & download KnowIT

Please make sure you have followed all the steps below before proceeding.

Setting up your KnowIT Employee account

Your KnowIT account will look like this:

In a previous article we asked you to make sure that you either wrote down or copied and pasted your KnowIT license code to a safe place because now you will need it to activate the software.

Click Download Now for MAC to start the download.

Step 2 - Run the KnowIT installer

The first thing to do is run the KnowIT download file you should have saved to your Mac. 

When the installation window appears click "Continue".

Click "Continue" again to agree to the license agreement.

Click "Agree" to proceed.

Click "Install" and enter your administrator password when asked and wait for the installation to finish.

Wait for the installation to complete and then click "Close".

Step 3 - Activate KnowIT

Now that you have downloaded and installed KnowIT to your employees Mac you need to run the program to perform activation.

To do this, using your keyboard hold down Command+Ctrl+Shift and then type 900900900 and the program should appear, ready to be activated.

If you make a mistake following the key combination above press the D key and then perform the key combination again.

Providing you have typed the key combination correctly the KnowIT activation screen should appear.

Type in your KnowIT license code and then click "Activate" and wait for the activation process to be completed.

Once KnowIT has been activated it will be hidden automatically and will run in the background.

Inside your KnowIT online account click "Finish".
