Peripherals

Peripherals

KnowIT allows your company to maintain a history of all peripherals that have ever been connected to your devices, and to authorize them before they can be used.

Peripheral Lists

In your KnowIT account, the peripherals are split into 2 lists:
  1. Authorized Peripherals are peripherals that have been connected and are authorized for use by your employees
  2. Prohibited Peripherals are peripherals that have been connected and cannot be used by your employees

Authorized Peripherals List

The Authorized Peripherals list contains all the peripherals which are not prohibited and are authorized for use inside your company.
For each peripheral in this this list, you can:
  1. View when and where it has been connected to your company devices.
  2. Mark as prohibited to block usage.

Prohibited Peripherals List

The Prohibited Peripherals list contains all the peripherals have been marked as prohibited and are currently blocked for use inside your company.
For each peripheral in this this list, you can:
  1. View when and where it has been connected to your company devices.
  2. Mark as authorized to re-enable usage.

Default Prohibited Peripherals

Any new peripheral that is connected to one of your devices will be unknown to KnowIT, and so you may provide a default action to take, based a peripheral's type.
This automatic setting can then be overridden manually when you review all newly connected devices or have a legitimate request from one of your employees to enable it for use.

Prohibited Peripheral Connection Rule

The Prohibited Peripheral Connection Rule determines what action to take if an employee connects a peripheral device which you have marked as prohibited.
In line with other KnowIT rules, you may select your action and also provide an optional warning message to display on the computer screen.
The actions you can choose from are as follows:
  1. Do Nothing - Just as it says. Even though peripherals are marked as prohibited, KnowIT will ignore the connection and take no action.
  2. Alert Only - The connection will be allowed, however an alert will be created inside your KnowIT account. An optional warning message can also be set.
  3. Block Peripheral + Alert - The connected device will be blocked and an alert created in your KnowIT account. An optional warning message can also be set.
