Installing KnowIT on Mac

Learn how to Install KnowIT on Employee Macs

What we'll be doing

Step 1. Preparing the Mac

  1. For MacOS Yosemite devices and below, skip to Downloading KnowIT
  2. For MacOS El Capitan devices and higher, you must prepare the device using the steps below

Preparing a MacOS El Capitan and higher Mac with one partition (most people)

  1. Boot the Mac into recovery mode
    1. Turn off the Mac, then turn it back on and hold down Command & R while the system boots up
    2. The recovery environment will load
  2. From the Utilities menu, click Terminal
  3. When the Terminal window appears type in the following:
    csrutil disable
    Press Enter.
    A message will appear to confirm the command was processed successfully.
  4. Click the Apple icon in the top left-hand corner and then click Restart.
  5. Once the Mac restarts, log back in to your KnowIT online portal and continue to the Downloading KnowIT step

Preparing a MacOS El Capitan and higher Mac with more than one partition

  1. Boot the Mac into recovery mode
    1. Turn the Mac off, then turn it back on and hold down Alt while the system boots up. Select the OS X recovery partition from the list
    2. The recovery environment will load
  2. From the Utilities menu, click Terminal
  3. When the Terminal window appears type in the following:
    csrutil disable
    Press Enter
    A message will appear to confirm the command was processed successfully.

  4. Click the Apple icon in the top left-hand corner and then click Restart.
  5. Once the Mac restarts, log back in to your KnowIT online portal and continue to Downloading KnowIT step

Step 2. Downloading KnowIT

  1. Login to your KnowIT Portal at https://portal.digitalendpoint.com
  2. On the Popup that appears, click Install KnowIT
  3. If you don't see the popup, go to Tools > Install Device Software
  4. Select macOS as your device
  1. Next, select the computer which you are installing KnowIT on. For this guide, we will select 'This computer'
  1. Click the download link

Step 3. Run the KnowIT installer

Once the download is finished, open your Downloads folder and double-click the installer package to get started
  1. Follow the installation wizard.
  2. Once the installation is complete click "Close" 

Step 4. Activate KnowIT

The activation screen should now appear. If it does not 
  1. Using your keyboard, hold down Command+Ctrl+Shift and then type 900900900 and the program should appear, ready to be activated.
  2. If you made a mistake and the screen does now appear, press the D key and then perform the key combination again.
  3. The KnowIT activation screen should appear. Enter your KnowIT license code, found inside your KnowIT account, and click "Activate" and wait for the activation process to be completed.
  1. Once KnowIT has been activated it will be hidden automatically and will run in the background. Click 'OK'.
  2. Congratulations! You have successfully activated KnowIT

Step 5. Viewing Your Data

Login to your KnowIT account and to start seeing your employee monitoring data
